Sofar Sounds

July 15th, 2014

Last Friday I had the privilege of being a part of Milwaukee’s first installment of Sofar Sounds, a series of guerrilla living-room concerts held in just about every major city you an think of. The series began in London and is now in cites all over the US and Europe. Due to our experience shooting Dig Sessions, Ivan and I were brought on to record the bands. 4 Wisconsin bands played to a packed crowd in an East Side flat and what proved to be a truly incredible evening. It even wrapped up early enough for me to finally catch my first The Fatty Acids show! I know there are more Sofar shows on the way already and I’m greatly looking forward to them even though, by definition of the series, I have no idea who is playing!

New of the North Videos

March 15th, 2013

Of the North – Tickle of my Breath – with Spoons!

January 30th, 2013

I got a little crazy at Of the North’s last set at Bremen Cafe in Riverwest. I set down the cello for a song and picked up the spoons! I started learning spoons less than a week before the gig, so I kept it fairly simple, but I think it went really well.

Allen Russel Plays with the Milwaukee Hot Club

December 17th, 2012

I caught Allen Russel, a multi-instrumentalist and composer I know from UWM, playing violin with the Milwaukee Hot Club on Saturday night. Allen played mandolin on one of my pieces during school, Irresolution. The show was great overall, and this tunes was one of the highlights of the night.

Of the North at Tonic Tavern – Dec 30th

December 6th, 2012

Of the North will be playing at Tonic Tavern on Dec 30th at about 8 pm. This’ll be my first gig with the full band (bass, additional vocals, and trumpet) so that’s exciting! I also have revised most of my cello parts and will be showing off a bit more. The show is free and Pay the Devil, a Milwaukee bluegrass band will be opening for us. I’m sure there’ll be a video or two posted once the show is done, but please come out and watch the whole show.
